A COMPREHENSIVE WORKSHOP: Offering a unique, improvisational approach to storytelling, utilizing the vocabulary actors already possess to be effective dramatic writers and help them truly find their voice. HOW IT WORKS: The substance of the actors' work in this process involves their re-enacting stories derived from their own personal histories. Actors choose critical moments from childhood, adolescence and adulthood, and are challenged to make these revelatory incidents resonate as powerfully for an audience as they do for the actor. Actors structure their stories at home and then present them as solo improvisations during the workshop sessions. As actors move through these improvised stories, notes on structure and acting will be given. Actors then choose one of their three stories, and consign it to outline, and then a one half hour script. This process of storytelling is clearly personal in nature. AT NO TIME are personal issues addressed in the workshop. Techniques for improving writing skills through acting are the sole province of these exercises. Several actors who have completed this program have cited growth in their acting, have created one-person shows, and even produced their scripts as short films. Others have gone on to successful careers as screenwriters. THE NEXT SESSION: MARCH, 2009
